Dr. John Winston Amos, age 60, of 6533 Anderson Mill Road, Chatham, Virginia, died Wednesday, June 24, 2009 at his residence. He was born on June 6, 1949, in Danville, the son of the late Elijah Page Amos and the late Annie Slayton Amos.
He was a member of Museville Christian Church. John was employed by the Pittsylvania County Schools as Assistant Superintendent of Support Services. A graduate of Chatham High School, class of 1967, he received his B.A. in Political Science from Virginia Tech, and his Masters in Education and Doctorate in Education Administration and Supervision from the University of Virginia.
He is survived by his wife Peggy Moschler Amos of the residence; one daughter, Anne A. Cravens and her husband Mark of Charlottesville, Virginia; two grandchildren, Jack and Nate Cravens; and one brother, Donald Amos of Museville.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Scott Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, June 26, 2009 at 11:00 AM with the Rev. Steve Carlton officiating. Burial will be at Highland Burial Park, in Danville, Virginia. The family will receive friends at Scott Funeral Home on Thursday, June 25, 2009 from 7:00 PM till 8:30 PM and at other times will be at the residence.
